These shortcuts will allow you to perform defined actions more quickly, reducing the number of steps and optimizing your trading experience, giving you more time to trade.
Function Keys for Metatrader 4:
Simply press the F1 key to access Metatrader4’s help guide.
F2 – will give you “the history center,” which will allow you to download previous data for a specific trading entity if you want to do some backtesting or run it through an expert advisor.
F8 – opens the chart properties, where you can change the colors and appearance of the grid and period separators.
F9 – Generate a new order ticket.
F11 – Activates and deactivates full-screen mode.
F12 – enables you to scroll and advance the chart by one candlestick or bar chart. Now It’s ideal for backtesting, so simply press the F12 key to see a new bar appear.
Shift + F12 – will rewind the chart one candle at a time.
Shortcuts for chancing chart types:
To switch between chart types in MT4, use the shortcuts “ALT” + 1, 2, and 3 as shown below.
ALT+1 – Displays a chart as a bar graph.
ALT+2 – will bring up a candlestick chart.
ALT+3 – will bring up a line chart.
Shortcuts to open/close the Metatrader 4 features:
CTRL + A – returns all indicator windows to their default height.
CTRL + E – toggles the expert advisor’s status.
You can remove or add the grid by pressing CTRL + G.
CTRL + H – displays or hides the open-high-low-close chart.
CTRL + I – Toggle the “Indicators list” window open for easy management.
You can print the chart by pressing CTRL + P.
CTRL + S is a keyboard shortcut for quickly saving the chart for future use.
The chart window can be closed by pressing CTRL + W.
CTRL + Z – (or ALT + Backspace)– if you accidentally delete something, this key will save you a lot of time.
CTRL + D – Closes or opens “the data window,” which is useful for visualizing specific values in any trade.
CTRL + M – Opens or closes “the market watch window,” allowing traders to switch between two views.
CTRL + N – Displays or hides “the Navigator window.”
CTRL + T – is a keyboard shortcut that opens or closes “the Terminal window.”
Metatrader 4 tips for moving through the chart:
- The left arrow ( ← ) : move the chart to the Left
- The right arrow (→) : scroll the chart to the Right
- The up arrow ( ↑ ) : scroll much faster to the Left
- The down arrow ( ↓ ) : scroll even faster to the Right
If you want to scroll even faster, use the hotkeys “Page up” and “Page down.”
To zoom in, hold down SHIFT and press the + key, or simply type “–” to zoom out.
